The Turkish FM spoke about the Karabakh issue and the Armenian-Turkish process.

“Turkey has recognized independence of Armenia, when most European states did not dare to do so. Turks and Armenians have lived in this region for centuries and have never been rivals. Turkey has never had prejudice towards Armenians who occupied the posts of ministers in the Ottoman Empire.

Turkey, unlike some European countries, did not create ghetto against Armenians, therefore, the fair investigation of this issue is of great importance”, Turkish FM Ahmed Davutoglu told a news conference by results of the meeting with State Secretary Hillary Clinton in Washington, 1news.az reports with reference to CNN-Turk.

He said it was the time of war and both Turks and Armenians suffered during it. “Not only Armenians but also Turks died in 1915. “It is incorrect to treat these events as the problem of only the Armenian people”, he said.

As for the Karabakh issue and the Armenian-Turkish process, the Turkish FM said Ankara is loyal to these protocols. “However, there are such moments which should promote the peace process rather than hamper it”.

On the example of negotiations between Syria and Israel, we witnessed the way this process affected the Gaza problem. Therefore, the negotiations between Ankara and Yerevan should be held on par with negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia”, he said.

According to the Minister, though the process of normalization of ties between Turkey and Armenia was successful, the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict will still have a negative impact on this process.

“Therefore, we believe that these issues must be settled together and the signed protocols will be successful only in conditions of establishing peace in the region. We are ready for peace in the region but both parties should be ready to it”, he said.
