The Azerbaijanis in South Azerbaijan in Iran are going to stage mass protests.

They will protest against Iranian parliament’s rejection of two plans to revive Lake Urmia.

A number of statement have been issued to call the people to protest. Booklets and CDs have been distributed and walls have been decorated with slogans.

The activists of national movements in Marand, Maraga and Ahar cities and teachers of Azerbaijan Pedagogical University have also joined the calls.

The statements issued strongly condemn the Iranian Parliament’s rejection of the plans to revive the Lake Urmia.

The protests are scheduled to take place during Trakhtur-Shahrdari football match in Sahand stadium in Tabriz on 25 August and at the intersection Imam and Atai avenues in Urmia on 27 August.
