Azerbaijan is not surprised that the Armenian president has publicly voiced outright lies, trying to make a fool of his interlocutors.

The statement came from political scientist Fikret Sadikhov.

"Slander and misrepresentation are erected on the level of state policy in Armenia”, he told, commenting on the meeting of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan with  OSCE Chairperson of Ukraine, Leonid Kozhara.

At the meeting, which took place the day before, the sides expressed support for the mission of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

One of the major initiatives to reduce tensions in the region and the establishment of confidence-building measures between the parties to the conflict is the rapprochement between the Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno-Karabakh.

However, as is known, the Armenian government, along with hindering the coordination of the updated Madrid principles, strongly blocks the meetings between representatives of the two communities.

According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Elman Abdullayev, Azerbaijan supports the initiatives of inter-community meetings while the Armenian community has been ignoring these meetings for years.

"The representatives of the Azerbaijani community always attended the meetings organized in a third country, while  official Yerevan always blocks them”, he said.

According to political scientist Sadikhov, the Armenian side always claims that there is no such notion as the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh does.

"But after that Sargsyan signed a statement in which he deals with the approach of the two communities of Nagorno-Karabakh that is a blatant lie and hypocrisy", Sadikhov said.

According to him, it is surprising that "all this is brought to the attention of officials representing the competent international organizations, and they, in spite of the presence of numerous documentary evidence, continue to accept this lie."

Earlier in Yerevan, Sargsyan and Kozhara touched upon the implementation of international agreements in the field of armaments within the framework of the OSCE.

Armenian politicians have repeatedly accused Azerbaijan of bellicose rhetoric. Lately, the same statement came from Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian at the PACE summer session in Strasbourg.

Surprised that an aggressor is indignant about the increasing military power of a neighboring state, Sadikhov can not provide examples of any country, part of which would have been under the occupation, and the state in this situation would disarm or reduce its armed forces .

The country must be strong, well-developed and self-sufficient, to be able to resist all forms of aggression and separatism, he said.

According to the Center for Strategic Studies (SAM) under the President of Azerbaijan Republic, Azerbaijan's military budget this year exceeded $ 3.7 bn, which is more than the entire state budget of Armenia.

However, the military expenditures of Azerbaijan make up less than 4% of GDP, despite the fact that the military budget of Armenia has been well above 4% of GDP over the past two years.

"Yes, today Azerbaijan has the best trained and equipped army in the region. The country, part of whIch is under occupation, should have a strong army as a strong institution of statehood and guarantee of people’s security”, he said.
