Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Edward Nalbandian briefed Ban Ki-moon on recent developments in the Karabakh conflict settlement at the latter's request, the Armenian Foreign Ministry press service reported.

Ban Ki-moon said that he supported the withdrawal of snipers from the contact line separating Armenian and Azerbaijani troops and that this would considerably strengthen the truce between the parties to the conflict. Edward Nalbandian agreed, expressing the hope that Azerbaijan would accept the offer which he said had been made repeatedly.

Nalbandian thanked Ban Ki-moon for the UN's unbiased assistance in the process of rapprochement between Armenia and Turkey.

Edward Nalbandian left New York for Boston to speak at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and to meet representatives of the Armenian community there.
