We have not declared Ramil Safarov a hero - official
Azerbaijan has not made a hero out of Ramil Safarov.
Neither the government bodies nor official structures praised the murder Ramil Safarov committed, nor did they glorify him and made him a hero, Gun.Az reports.
The statement came from chief of the socio-political department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov in his interview to Mediaforum.az.
According to the PA official, social discussions have been running for eight years in Azerbaijan over this event, and one of the main points of discussion was the non-adequate sentence of Ramil Safarov.
Hasanov noted that therefore, his clemency in Azerbaijan was his full right.
"He already served eight years and a half of the sentence and showed an exemplary behavior. He proved that henceforth, he does not pose any social and international threat. There was no attempt from Azerbaijan to make a hero out of him.
Simply, the public interest was so high that the same day, all political circles, media, social representatives and MPs commented on this issue. Many of these comments were necessitated by the utmost emotional attitude of Armenians to this issue.
I think that we didn't experience emotional cases and celebrations in this connection. We didn't declare Ramil Safarov a hero. It was only a public interest, which could not be balanced."
