2012 state budget to increase funds to launch national satellite into orbit

The first national satellite is expected to be launched into orbit in late 2012.

It is planned to earmark AZN 3.6m from the 2012 state budget to launch Azerspace, the first telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan, into orbit, to manage and operate it.

This was announced by the Communications and Information Technology Ministry of Azerbaijan according to the draft 2012 state budget.

“The spending will increase 75.3% or AZN 1.5 million over 2011.”

The funds will be issued to Azerkosmos OJSC.

The first national satellite is expected to be launched into orbit in late 2012.

US Orbital Sciences Corporation is the manufacturer of Azerspace. The satellite will be located in an orbital location of 46 degrees East longitude leased from Malaysian satellite operator MEASAT.
