The three-day international chess contest on Rosh Hashanah has started at the Republican chess center in Baku.

According to the Jewish News Agency, 64 young sportsmen from Azerbaijan, Russia, Poland, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina are taking part in the contest organized by the Culture and Sport association Makkabi-Azerbaijan. The contest is held by the Swiss system and nine rounds will be played in three days.

For the first time in Azerbaijan such sport contests are devoted to Rosh Hashanah, whose history and traditions were characterized by head of Makkabi-Azerbaijan Gennady Gelman and Israeli consul Slomo Ben Tsvi.
