The Azerbaijani team won bronze on the first day of the world championship in wrestling in Moscow.

It was taken by Greco-Roman wrestler Vitaliy Rahimov, who participated in the weight category below 66 kg. He defeated Kumar Sunil (India), Armen Adikyan (Armenia), but lost to future champion Ambako Vachadze (Russia) in the quarterfinal and moved to the consolation network. There, he had to gain two victories and Rahimov beat Pascal Strebel (Switzerland) and Tamas Lorinz (Hungary) when fighting for bronze.

The sportsmen in the weight categories below 55 and 96 kg fought for the awards yesterday. Unfortunately, Elchin Aliyev (55 kg) and Sabuhi Humbatov (96 kg) were not very successful and gained no awards.

Classical wrestlers in the weight categories below 60, 84 and 120 kg will be fighting at the world championship today.
