Azerbaijan, Latvia sign MoU on gender equality

An Azerbaijani delegation led by Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Hijran Huseynova is in an official visit to Riga.

A meeting with Latvian Minister of Welfare Ilze Vinkele discussed issues of social security and services, gender equality, rights of children and disabled, AzerTAj reported.

Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Hijran Huseynov briefed on  the activities of the structure led by her, highlighting the main directions of the state policy in the sphere of solving problems of family, women and children in Azerbaijan, stressing the special attention given by President Ilham Aliyev to that area.

She also reported on the legislative measures taken in Azerbaijan to increase opportunities for women, gender equality, strengthening the fight against violence against women and protection of children.

Latvian Minister Welfare Ilze Vinkele, in turn, provided information on the work of non-governmental organizations operating in the country in the field of protection of family, the rights of women and children. At the same time, the Latvian side expressed interest in getting acquainted with the legal framework of Azerbaijan in the field of gender equality.

Following the meeting, the sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of experience and experts in the field of gender equality, children's issues, as well as mutual visits of representatives of the state bodies of the two countries.
