Haji Allahshukur Pashazade

The chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Department, Sheikh ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, has congratulated the Azerbaijani people on Eid ul-Fitr.

The holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan is being celebrated in Azerbaijan on 9 and 10 September.

The sheikh said in his message that Ramadan was a time for reconciliation and generosity towards the poor.

"Thank God that from year to year our people become greater exponents of the values of Ramadan. The Ramadan holiday [Eid ul-Fitr] is celebrated at the state level as an occasion for national unity and solidarity," the sheikh said.

He did not shy away from political statements in his message.

"Thanks to the grace and mercy of God, our people mark Holy Ramadan with hopes of happiness and prosperity for our Homeland. On this marvellous day, the people pray for the soul of our National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of our national and spiritual values," the shekih said, referring to the late president, father of incumbent leader Ilham Aliyev.

"We hope that Almighty God might help our people achieve success and make our state powerful under the leadership of our deeply respected president, Ilham Aliyev. We pray to God to liberate our occupied lands and to raise the flag of Azerbaijan in Karabakh once more. May the souls of our martyrs rejoice."

The sheikh ended his message with more good wishes: "I congratulate all devout brothers and sisters on the Holy Day – Eid ul-Fitr. May the Almighty bless every home with prosperity and peace. May our people's highest wishes and intentions be fulfilled!"
