He was addressing a ceremony yesterday to present the keys to 22 new apartments to villagers in Meyniman in Hajigabul District, whose homes were destroyed by the floods.
"I said that all houses must be restored before winter," the president said in Meyniman. "This is a big job. The construction of 3,000-4,000 houses in several months is a great test for us, for our state. But I set this objective, as people must have suitable housing by winter. Today you are getting the first homes. This is a remarkable, historic event."
"Indeed, we faced great difficulties," the president continued. "The flooding of rivers and lakes and destruction of dams did not last for just a day or two, it went on for weeks. The floods and rains were a great natural disaster. But the Azerbaijani people showed solidarity as they usually do. All state structures worked efficiently and professionally. Private structures also joined this work at their own initiative. This was really a national duty.
"I am very happy that at the first stage we did everything to rescue people and today we have managed to build these houses. Houses are now being built in all the regions affected by the natural disaster. In the near future we will hold similar opening ceremonies in other regions too. This ceremony is the first which makes it important. We already have a strong economy, financial resources, which we are spending on improving people’s welfare. I am confident that you will live happily in these houses."
