Under the project, the CIS countries intend to cooperate in the protection and use of land, soils, minerals, forests, water, air, ozone layer and climate, as well as flora and fauna. Members of CIS reiterated their commitment to developing and adopting environmental regulations and standards in the field of environmental protection and natural resources, and also conducting the inventory of natural resources and environmental monitoring.
The draft agreement provides for the adoption of measures for the reproduction of living resources, preservation and restoration of biological diversity, the development of a network of nature reserves, national parks and other natural systems.
It is planned to develop common approaches and coordinated activities to restore rare and endangered plant and animal species.
After final approval by experts, the draft agreement on cooperation in environmental protection will be submitted to the CIS Council of the Heads of Governments.
