Latvian Ambassador to Azerbaijan dies in Baku

"He played a major role in the development of relations between our countries"

Latvian Ambassador Hardijs Baumanis died in Baku, broadcaster Emin Mousavi, who cooperates with the Embassy of Latvia, told APA, reports.

According to him, Hardijs Baumanis died on April 6.

"He played a major role in the development of relations between our countries," Mousavi noted.

Latvian Foreign Minister, confirming the death of ambassador, expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the late ambassador, emphasizing his contribution to the development of the Latvian diplomacy.

Born in 1967, Baumanis, prior to the appointment to Azerbaijan, served as ambassador to Lithuania, as well as the Consul General in St. Petersburg.

The trip of Baumanis to Baku ends this summer. It was assumed that on his return he will continue to work in the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
