Turkish MP offers to declare liberation of Baku as Friendship Day

Mustafa Kabakci, Member of Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Konya MP has proposed to proclaim September 15 as Turkey-Azerbaijan Friendship Day.

Commenting on the anniversary of the liberation day of Baku Mustafa Kabakci also proposed to put into agenda the issue on the erection of the commander of Caucasus Islamic Army Nuri Pasha monument in the Capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, APA reports.

The Member of Parliament focused attention on the fact that Nuri Pasha played an important role in the history of Azerbaijan as he demonstrated great heroism and commandership while liberating Baku from occupation:

“No matter that the majority of our citizens aren’t aware of all Turkey’s victories. Except Chanakele and the Liberation War, Turkey won many other wars. One of those victories was achieved in 1918 when Caucasus Islamic Army liberated Baku from Armenia-Russian band detachments. Victorious commander of Caucasus Islamic Army Nuri Pasha was in his 27th when he rushed to help Baku when 20 thousands Azerbaijanis had been killed. In spite of the difficulties, Ottoman Empire wasn’t indifferent to suffer of Azerbaijani people. Turkish soldiers under the commandership of Nuri Pasha managed to help Azerbaijani brothers. This is an outstanding example of our historical brotherhood”.

There are unknown tombs of Nuri Pasha’s soldiers located in Baku, Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Goychay and in other Azerbaijan’s regions. Mustafa Kabakci said that Azerbaijani people keep in their hearts the remembrance of these soldiers: “Proclamation of September 15 and erection of Nuri Pasha’s monument is a symbol of love towards him. I believe that the states will soon make all necessary steps concerning this issue”.
