Israel’s military action against Iran, its facilities for uranium enrichment is possible but unlikely: a) some of these facilities are difficult to damage with Israeli arms; b) the reverse strike by Iran can be extremely painful for Israel (Iran has no nuclear bomb yet, but Tehran is already able to ‘supply’ a ‘smeary’ bomb with highly radioactive ‘hazard’ to Israel).

What tactics will Azerbaijan choose in case of West’s war against Iran?

In case of NATO or US war against Iran in the alliance with some countries, I hope Azerbaijan will remain neutral and spare no effort for the peaceful resolution of problems or the soonest reconciliation.

How can you comment on the initiative of US congressman Rohrabacher about the need to separate the northern region of Iran inhabited by Azerbaijanis? Could it be the reflection of the US official view?

The idea of secession of Iran’s northern region with the center in Tebriz or transformation of Iran into a federation of two regions is equal to declaration of war against Iran. In the situation of peace, the Iranians have the right to settle similar issues independently. The Republic of Azerbaijan can no way be the initiator or supporter of such ideas towards its biggest neighbor and brother in religion.

Why does the US leadership periodically draw attention to the problems of Iranian Azerbaijanis?

The United States do not care about the rights of Iranian Azerbaijanis but they want to use them in their pressure against Iran and Azerbaijan in anticipation of the upcoming presidential elections.

How can the possible anti-Iranian war of the West influence the neighbor South Caucasus?

The war of NATO or the United States in alliance with some countries against Iran will sharply destabilize the situation in the South Caucasus, in general, and in Azerbaijan, in particular. Flourishing Azerbaijan does not need any wars except for the liberation of lands, occupied by aggressor Armenia.
