Azerbaijani official opposes airport in Karabakh capital

Official Baku may annihilate aircrafts flying to airport constructed by Armenians in occupied Khankendi city located in Nagorno Karabakh territory.

The statement came from director of the Civil Aviation Administration Arif Mammadov.

Speaking about the information on construction of a new airport in Khankendi city, administration director noted that preventive measures had already been started in this regard. Last year, the CAA sent notice in connection with it to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

'We told that our airspace is closed over Karabakh. According to law on aviation, it is considered to annihilate those aircrafts which fly even to there', said Mammadov.

Administration director added that ICAO head addressed letter to Azerbaijani side and recommended to join some conventions, make efforts to prevent occurrence of unpleasant cases in the region: 'We wrote to ICAO that this airspace is closed and belongs to Azerbaijani Military Air Forces. That is why, please, warn the opposite side in order to prevent the unpleasant incidents. And ICAO sent my letter to the Armenian side'.
