Warsaw recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the Polish embassy in Baku has said in a statement.

The statement was released after Polish analyst Mateusz Piskorski said during a visit to Karabakh that Armenia should recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh republic.

Piskorski made the visit to Karabakh, de jure part of Azerbaijan, without first seeking Baku's permission.

"Poland's position on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict includes recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. These [occupied] lands should be returned and the population of Nagorno-Karabakh has the right to self-determination. But we cannot specify the nature of self-determination," the embassy said.

Mateusz Piskorski is director of the European Centre for Geopolitical Analysis.
