Morocco bids to take part in Eurovision

Wed 03 August 2011 11:43 GMT | 16:43 Local Time

Morocco has applied to take part in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Baku.

The North African country took part in Eurovision in 1980, coming second to last with popular singer Samira Bensaid's Bitaqat Hob, Gun.Az reported.

Moroccan public broadcaster SNRT, which is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, decided against further participation in the contest following the ignominious defeat.

A new Moroccan channel, 2M TV, is keen to participate in Eurovision, however.

Countries are still confirming their participation in Eurovision 2012.
