The name of new pipeline to transport Azerbaijani gas to European market via Turkey has been made public.

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev announced that new pipe would be named as Trans Anadolu gas pipe, reports Anadolu agency.

Delivering speech at the 3rd Black Sea Energy and Economic Forum (BSEEF) Abdullayev said that by the construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines the role of Azerbaijan and Turkey had increase in the region.

To him, energy union of both countries is an important step in realization of “Southern gas corridor”. “New gas pipe is an ambitious, but a viable project and it will assume great importance in supply of European energy security”.

SOCAR President underlined that Trans Anadolu gas pipeline would not have any influence on Nabucco project: “A decision on transportation of Shah Deniz 2 gas to Europe via Nabucco, ITGI or TAP projects will be passed, recently”.

Note that, annual transportation capacity of Trans Anadolu (Samsun-Jeyhan) will make at least 16 bcm. The pipeline will be constructed from Turkey-Georgia borders to Turkey-Bulgaria and Turkey-Greece borders.

South Gas Corridor project is one of the priority energy projects for European Union. South Corridor project includes Nabucco, TAP, White Stream and ITGI.
