Gas extraction from Shah Deniz field drops by 900 mln cubic meters

Shah Deniz gas produced 6.2 bn cubic meters of gas and 1.7 mln tons of condensate in 2009, according to a statement from BP Azerbaijan.

The production from the field continued in four wells and the production was supplied to the selection points in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkish border. The gas extracted within the first stage of Shah Deniz field is sold to Azerbaijan, Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, BOTAS and BTC Co.

In 2009 there is a plan to produce 7.5 bn cubic meters of gas and 1.9 mln of condensate. The production will be raised as the new wells drilled from the platform are commissioned in the next few years. The production at the field within Stage 1 in period of maximal production will make up 8.6 bn cubic meters of gas per year and at least 45,000 barrels of condensate daily. In 2008 the Shah Deniz field produced 7.1 bn cubic meters of gas and 1.8 mln tons of condensate in 2008.

In 2010 the consortium is planning to produce 7.6 bn cubic meters of gas and 2 mln tons of condensate.
