US Microsoft loses up to 50 million dollars every year in Armenia because of еру pirated copies of this company’s software on the Armenian market, director of Microsoft office in Armenia, Grigor Barsegyan, has told Prime Tass.
"At least 30 percent of these losses are losses of the state and the copyright holders. Moreover, according to our data, the licensed software is installed only on 30 percent of computers and only in the state structures of the Republic of Armenia. In this regard, in late 2009 Microsoft first introduced the program to combat illegal copies of computer programs, which has already become a topic of serious discussion in the Ministry of Economy, resulting in a decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia to establish an interdepartmental commission to consider the matter”, he said.
According to Barsegyan, the Commission of the Government is considering the possible existence of gaps in the legislation of the republic, issues of international cooperation, and protection of the rights of Armenian authors, as well as opportunities to raise public awareness.
"I want to remind you that according to a study in 2009 held by US producers of software, Business Software Alliance and IDC Global Software, Armenia, along with countries such as Georgia, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe joined the list of the largest consumers of pirated products, as the pirated copies of software in our countries exceed 90 percent ", Barsegyan said
