Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Belarus grew by 12% in 2009, ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan Nikolai Patskevitch has said.

"For 2009 our countries carried out the exchange of goods in the amount of $ 125 mln and the overall goods and services in the amount of $ 135 mln. Mutual services grew by 70%, and the turnover increased by 12%", - said N. Patskevitch.

The ambassador stressed that this trend "is very important, because the global financial crisis caused drop in the trade turnover with foreign countries both in Azerbaijan and in Belarus".

"As you can see,  there was an increase in turnover between our countries as compared to 2008. Moreover, in 2008 Belarus was the 17th among the countries that supply production to Azerbaijan while in 2009 it was 10th which is close to such countries as France, " N. Patskevitch noted.

The diplomat also stressed that even today one can predict growth in trade between the countries in 2010.

"We see the work done both Azerbaijani and Belarus, including the high level meetings. Thus, the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Belarus in November 2009 gave a new impetus to bilateral relations, including in trade and economic spheres. Also, we have witnessed the mutual visits of business people, heads of ministries and departments, during which new agreements are reached and contracts are signed. So this year will ensure the growth of trade turnover between our countries ", concluded the ambassador.
