Baku hosts a conference on the application of information technologies in Azerbaijan's education system.
The conference, organized by the Ministry of Education along with Microsoft-Azerbaijan under support of private ICT companies, involved Education Minister Misir Mardanov.
The minister drew conclusions of the contest of innovative teachers and declared the winner of the Azerbaijani stage of this international contest to represent our country at the European forum of innovative teachers in Germany in late March 2010. The winner is Ilhama Akperova from secondary school No 8 of Baku city. This contest is held within the framework of the long-term programme of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Microsoft-Azerbaijan in line with the state program on information system of education of 2008-2012.
Speaking in the event Minister Misir Mardanov offered to declare the years of 2020-2011 in Azerbaijan the year of introduction of Information Communication Technology (ICT) system in education, raise the number of contests and events in this sphere and creation a Coordination Group.
The minister noted that a new contest of innovative teachers in ICT sphere will be launched in March 2010. Mardanov said about 500 secondary schools were connected to internet in Azerbaijan last year while the connection of over 500 schools is expected this year which will enable to raise the number of such schools to 1000. On the whole, Azerbaijan accounts for more than 4,000 educational facilities that will gradually gain access to internet.
