Israeli foreign minister starts three-day visit to Azerbaijan

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman has met his Azerbaijani counterpart, Elmar Mammadyarov, in Baku.

They discussed bilateral relations, international policy and security, according to the Izrus website.

This is the first visit of an Israeli foreign minister to Azerbaijan since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The head of the Nativ relations bureau, Naomi Ben-Ami, the heads of the Eurasia-1 and Eurasia-2 divisions at the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yaakov Livne and Yaakov Fuchs, and the Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan, Michael Lavon-Lotem, attended the meeting.  

Avigdor Liberman is to meet President Ilham Aliyev, Emergencies Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov, Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov and members of the Jewish community during his visit to Azerbaijan.

Earlier today, the minister laid a wreath at the grave of former President Heydar Aliyev in the Avenue of Honour and then visited Martyrs’ Avenue.

The visit will end on 11 February.
