1news.az interviews Ganira Pashayeva, chairman of the group of Azerbaijani-Georgian inter-parliamentary friendship in Azerbaijani parliament.
At the first meeting of the regular spring session of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani parliament) deputy from the ruling party Mubariz Gurbanli proposed to adopt a special law on the occupied territories.
I wholeheartedly support this proposal, I consider it timely and prudent. The country which is in a state of war is in need of such a law. It is necessary to work out such a bill and submit it for discussion and adoption in the parliament.
Some time ago you suggested adopting a specific law on foreign companies collaborating with the separatist regime in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as on illegal travel to the occupied territories. Is your proposal still valid?
Yes. It is possible to pass a single law covering all moments related to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. We must raise the issue that 18 years have already passed since the Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani territory, during which the UN Security Council and the PACE have adopted resolutions on this issue, but Armenia still refuses to comply with them. We must demand from the OSCE Minsk Group and the world community to enforce these resolutions on Armenia. Otherwise, the peace process to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict will be under real threat. Moreover, some foreign companies encouraged by Armenia have recently started to work in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, become complicit in the looting of our natural resources. We must take a tougher stance on such firms, and at the same time on thestates that are backing them. In addition, there are touristic and other companies, which indicate Karabakh as part of Armenia on their websites. A number of foreign companies and organizations are spreading false information about the history of Azerbaijan. We must adopt a law on organizations and individuals, collaborating with the occupiers in any form, and introduce a categorical ban on their activities in Azerbaijan, both now and in the future. The ban should extend to those who hold propaganda campaign against Azerbaijan or assist to such a campaign, falsify the history of our country, spread false information, and so on. I think it is necessary to create a body that will work against those who act against Azerbaijan in the Internet. I am sure that this law will make those who take hostile actions against Azerbaijan think seriously. Especially because today Azerbaijan is the most advanced and resource-rich country of the region, and many are interested to invest in the economy of our country.
