UK welcomes Ahmadinejad comments to ship some uranium abroad

Britain welcomed President Ahmadinejad comments on Iran cooperation to ship low enriched uranium for nuclear exchange.

Britain said on Wednesday it would be a "positive sign" if Iran was prepared to see through an offer to ship some uranium abroad to be further enriched.

But it said in meddling tone that Tehran still needed to hold talks with international partners on Iran nuclear Program calling this "the crucial issue".

The Foreign Office said in a statement that if Iran was prepared to take up the enrichment offer from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), "we look forward to them making that clear to the IAEA".

It added: "If Iran is willing to take up the IAEA's proposed offer, it would be a positive sign of their willingness to engage with the international community on nuclear issues."

But that "does not change" the need for Iran to hold further talks with Britain, France, Germany, China, the United States and Russia, the Foreign Office added.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a tv interview that Islamic Republic sees no obstacle preventing nuclear cooperation with the world's nuclear countries.
