The chairman of Turkey's Grand National Assembly was speaking in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, where he was attending the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
"Turkey wants to see the Caucasus as a region of peace and stability. This requires an end to the occupation of Azerbaijani land by Armenia. Turkish-Armenian relations will normalize only after the situation in the Caucasus normalizes. Everyone should understand this," Mehmet Ali Sahin said, according to CNN Turk.
He said that Turkey would not stay indifferent to the Palestinian problem: "Turkey supports the negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is based on the creation of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with its centre in East Jerusalem."
As for the Cyprus problem, Mehmet Ali Sahin said: "The responsibility for the absence of a solution to the problem lies with the Greek Cypriot part. The Cyprus problem can be settled within the framework of the new partnership to be based on the established UN parameters."
