PACE bureau has not supported the proposal to prepare a separate report on the political situation in the North Caucasus.

The statement came from Konstantin Kosachev, head of the Russian delegation and chairman of the Duma committee on international affairs.
He noted that the request to put this issue for discussion was signed by the representatives of Georgia and Estonia. However, the assembly leadership considered the proposed formulation to be "extremely and politically incorrect", gazeta.ru reports.
According to Kosachev, the profile committee of the Assembly is already preparing a complex report on human rights and within these frames the main rapporteur is ready to visit the Russian regions of the North Caucasus, in particular, Dagestan and Ingushetia in March.
Kosachev also announced that the issue of implications of war between Georgia and Russia in August of 2008 will not be discussed at the January session. Yet, he said for the next April session, the PACE committee is preparing the relevant report on execution of the previous resolutions of the Assembly on situation in the South Caucasus.
