Azerbaijan was first among the CIS countries to conduct the telephonization of all settlements in 2008.

In 2009 the fixed telephone communication was broadened by almost 90,000 telephones thanks to application of new network technologies.

The due statement was made by Azerbaijan's ICT Minister Ali Abbasov at a session in the Cabinet by results of Azerbaijan's socioeconomic development in 2009 on January 18.

"Though the network infrastructure of Azerbaijan is currently on the level of the developed countries, the use of the fixed telephone communication services by the population is not at the desired level yet. We are planning to settle this issue within the framework of 100 telephones to 100 families project in 2010", Abbasov said.
