Documents relating to Azerbaijan were found in the secret archives of the Vatican Library.

The statement came from first vice president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Arif Hashimov.

Researcher of the ANAS Institute of Manuscripts Farid Alakbarov delegated to Vatican last summer conducted research in the secret archives of the Vatican Library:

'85 documents relating to Azerbaijan have been found in the archives so far. ANAS Presidium made a decision to get these documents, which have thousand years of history. There are letters of the Safavid kings to Vatican among those documents. We will get video-copies of these documents'. Hashimov said ANAS would negotiate this issue with the Vatican’s representation in Azerbaijan and sign an agreement on cooperation.
