Azerbaijani official: Russian and Azerbaijani people have been demonstrating ability to understand and take care of each other for over 200 years.
The opening of the Russian Book House is an important event in the cultural life of Azerbaijan that will promote further strengthening of humanitarian ties and studying moral heritage of the Russian people, said chief of presidential administration Ramiz Mehdiyev speaking at the opening ceremony of the Russian Book House.
According to Mehdiyev, Russian and Azerbaijani people have been demonstrating ability to understand and take care of each other for more than 200 years.
“The Azeri-Russian relations rose to quite a new level thanks to the actions taken by Heydar Aliyev while Vladimir Putin’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2001 opened a new stage in our relations”, the chief of presidential administration has said.
Mehdiyev noted that Azerbaijan has 21 schools where all subjects are taught only in Russian and 335 schools in both Russian and Azeri.
“Almost all high schools and educational facilities have a sector where Russian language and culture are taught. The only Slavic University in CIS functions in Baku and the biggest Russian community in the Caucasus – 160,000 people- resides in Azerbaijan”, the chief of the presidential administration has said.
