The State Customs Committee reports that for the last 10 months import of motor vehicles and spare parts for them made up 13.07% of whole import ($4.956 bn) that totals 63.03% of their import for Jan-Oct 2008.

According to cargo customs entries for Jan-Oct of the year 23,316 automobiles were imported for 212.7 million that according to net calculations is by 39.1% less against the Jan-Oct 2008 import figure.

Thus, average cost of an imported car is $9,123. Under customs paying-in slips, import made up 30,225 motor cars estimated at $169.1 million with average cost of a car at $5,595.

This October overall import made up 5,662 cars for $42.238 million (at average price of $7.46 million), including 2,998 cars for $26.427 million on cargo customs entries and 2,664 cars for $15.7 million on customs pay-in slips.

The best indicator per month in 2009 was registered in July on a number of imported cars and volume of total cost: 5,608 cars in the amount of $43.78 million at average price of $7.8 million, including 3,008 cars for $28.187 million on cargo customs entries and 2,600 cars to the sum of   $15.595 million on customs paying-in slips. September became leader on index of cost of automobile ($7.9 million) and October on number of imported cars.

Excise tax for imported motor cars has been applied since 1st January 2007.

Only in December, 2008, according to cargo customs entries, 2,507 cars were imported in the amount of $24 million with average cost of $9,575,400 per car and according to customs pay-in slips, 5,292 automobiles to the sum of $27.89 million with average cost of $5,270 per car. Besides, in January and February 2009 (as well as in October-December 2008) the import on cargo customs entries exceeded the import on customs pay-in slips both in quantity and financial volume.

In 2008, Azerbaijan imported 89,044 automobiles to the sum of  $648.647 million with average cost of $7,284 per car. Under cargo customs entries over 2008, 44,469 automobiles were imported in the amount of $381.967 million that according to net calculations is by 30.4% more against the 2007 import figure. Thus, average cost of an imported car is $8,589. Under customs pay-in slips, import made 44,575 motor cars evaluated at $266.679 million with average cost of a car at $5,982.

In 2007, Azerbaijan imported 70,963 automobiles to the sum of $456.163 million with average cost of $6,428 per car. As a result of 2007, the committee expected import of around 70,000-80,000 motor cars. For the next four years the country will be imported more than 300,000 automobiles. Automobile fleet of Azerbaijan has exceeded 900,000.
