Azeri grandmaster wins over 12-time world champion

35 tours in World Blitz Championship involving Azeri chess players Vugar Hashimov and Shahriyar Mamedyarov have been played in Moscow.

According to News.Az, Mamedyarov gained 3 points in seven parties that were held today. He defeated 12-time world champion in classic chess Anatoli Carpov (Russia), Arcady Naidich (Germany) and Judith Polgar (Hungary). Shahriyar is 11th with 16.5 points.

Vugar Hashimov could gain only five points. After defeating Peter Leko (Hungary), Vasili Ivanchuk  (Ukraine), Boris Gelfand (Israel) and Alexander Kostenyuk (Russia)  and holding draw games with Eugeni Bareyev (Russia) and Alexander Morozevich (Russia), Hashimov raised to the 13th place with 16 points.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen who has 26.5 points is on top. The championship consisting of 42 rounds will end later today.
