“We established a students organization in 2005. In the past five years our organization has achieved its objectives in full: Olympic games, information and entertainment contests, international conferences and other events have been held for university students. The organization has created a platform for students," Ismayilov said.
“The Students Union will establish centres in all the regions where there are institutions of higher education. What's most important is to create the right conditions for the advancement of talented young people, to introduce innovations in students’ public life. There won't be any boring events. We are going to integrate with European student organizations and turn the union into an organization of Azerbaijani students studying both in state and private institutions of higher education."
The union will work with university rectors to tackle the problems facing students, Ismayilov said.
Close ties will be established with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sport as well as with public organizations and associations, he said.
There are 136,500 students in Azerbaijan and the union intends to unite them. There is a plan to involve students in technical colleges too. Ismayilov said that Azerbaijan has never had an organization such as the Students Union.
The union will hold a session on 20 November to discuss an action plan to promote student activity. One representative of every 400 students will attend the session. The conference will involve 300 representatives in all, Ismayilov said.
