Azeri chess player gains 8 victories

The third part of the world blitz championship involving Azeri chess players Vugar Hashimov and Shahriyar Mamedyarov has already been played in Moscow.

According to News.Az, after 28 rounds Mamedyarov is ranking 11th with 13.5 points. On the second day of the championship Shahriyar played much better than on the first. Of 14 games he won 8, held 3 draw games and was defeated thrice. 5 of 8 victories were gained over Russia chess players including Vladimir Kramnik, Alexander Kostenyuk, Eugeni Bareev, Peter Swidler and Alexander Grishuk. He also defeated Hungarian Peter Leko, Ukrainian Vasili Ivanchuk and French Vladislav Tkachev.

The second day was not so successful for Vugar Hashimov. He gained only two victories over German Arkadi Naidich and Russian Dmitri Jakovenko. Before the last day of the contest Hashimov is ranking 21th with 10 points.

Magnus Carlsen with 20 points is leading. The championship consisting of 42 rounds will end today.
