Azerbaijan should continue efforts 'to develop' country's renewable energy

The government should continue its efforts to develop alternative energy in the country.

'Azerbaijan is rich in hydrocarbon resources, but the country cannot rely on them in full, because the peak production of these resources will be reached sooner or later. Therefore we must use other available natural resources for generate power', - , said head of the EU Baku office Roland Cobia at the opening of the first Caucasian Forum on Renewable Energy.

He noted that Azerbaijan has assumed certain obligations on the development of the country's renewable and alternative energy sources, and created the State Agency for Renewable Energy.

'We welcome these steps, but we believe that these efforts should be continued', said R.Cobia.

According to him, countries wishing to develop their own alternative energy should involve the society, the government to this process, reduce administrative barriers for active investments into this sphere.

The Forum aims to further develop and implement ecologically safe technologies, accelerate the growth of the industry of renewable energy and its suppliers in the Caucasus region, attract oil and gas companies, banks and investment institutions to further successful investments in the industry of renewable energy in the region.

The forum will be attended by representatives of the Caucasian and international governmental organizations, the European Community, Cleantech, banks, consulting companies and investment institutions, research institutes and universities.
