The Days of Azerbaijani culture in Canada wrapped up with a concert of the Azerbaijan symphonic music and mugam as part of the 12th Niagara International Music Festival.

The concert took place at Saint Mark Cathedral. A lot of music lovers, country`s top officials, deputies of Canadian Parliament, mayor of Niagara Gary Borrow, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Canada Farid Shafiyev, foreign media reporters and music luminaries from the US and Canada attended the concert.

The program included performance of the Azerbaijani musicians, both national and symphonic, who have played pieces by Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Gara Garayev, Jovdet Hajiyev, Fikret Amirov and famous Azeri mugams, such as Karabakh Shikestesi, Bayati Shiraz, Chahargah, etc.

The mugam symphony The Rose of the World by Ismail Hajiyev dedicated to the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has been given an ovation.

Prior to the concert there was held a solo exhibition of the famous Azeri sculptor Omar Eldarov. The exhibition took place at Court House, the historical hall of Niagara city administration.

The exhibition featured sculptures of a wide range of outstanding Azeri personalities, such as Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Fikret Amirov, Jovdet Hajiyev, Tofik Guliyev, Niyazi, Muslim Magomayev, Rashid Behbudov and others.

The highlights of the exhibition included sculptures of two great leaders of the Turkic world – Heydar Aliyev and Ataturk, as well as the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, credited with the development of intercultural dialogue of civilizations and strengthening of the world’s cultures.

After the exhibition Omar Eldarov was awarded a Niagara Goodwill Ambassador Honorary Diploma. The award ceremony was held at oval room of Niagara mayor Gary Borrow.
