Romanian president to visit Azerbaijan

Romanian President Trajan Basescu will pay a one-day visit to Azerbaijan on September 14.

According to sources in Romania, Trajan Basescu will take part in an energy summit in Baku.

The sources said that during the visit the Romanian president will hold a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev during which the sides will discuss issues of relations between the countries.

The energy summit envisions the participation of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

As reported earlier, the presidents of the three countries are to sign the Baku declaration at the summit. The meeting with participation of experts will be held September 6 to coordinate joint declaration and the leadership of the relevant ministries of the three countries will meet on September 13.

The summit of the three presidents is expected to involve the chairman of the European commission Barrosa and EU commissioner on energy Oettinger.

The memo related to implementation of Azerbaijan-Georgia-Romania Interconnector project between Romania, Azerbaijan and Georgia was signed in Bucharest on 13 April 2010.
