Behlul Ozqan

Former student of Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expert Behlul Ozqan is in Yerevan.

Expert arrived in Yerevan to attend the project “talks on modern Turkey” initiated by Eurasia Partnership Foundation, Yerevan.

Ozqan had a news conference with the reporters to talk about Armenian-Turkish ties.

He ensured Turkey hasn’t just signed the protocols, but really wanted ties with Armenia. “If Turkey didn’t want, they would sign the protocols, since the policy of closed borders isn’t beneficial for Turkey. It’s 17 years our country has no impact on Armenia and in this respect I think Turkey wants some ties with Armenia,” expert said.

According to the Turkish expert, Armenian-Turkish ties will advance only when Armenian army leave the lands related to Karabakh.

Ozqan said that step is of great significance since otherwise Turkish opposition will start accusing the authorities. “The majority of Turkish society is pro-Azerbaijani and will not allow any ties with Armenia unless that very condition is implemented,” expert said.

He said status quo for Karabakh is dangerous for both Armenia and the regional countries.

Talking about the resuming of the war, Ozqan said Karabakh war won’t resume. “There are several reason to it, one of which is that Azerbaijan is linked to the world with its gas and oil pipelines. Azerbaijani authorities won’t prefer to threaten their ties with foreign countries,” Ozqan said.

Referring to Turkish President Abdulah Gul’s Azerbaijani trip and the treaty signed between the two states, expert said that treaty won’t change regional balance.
