Eight of BP's most prolific wells are in Azerbaijan

Eight of oil major BP's 15 most prolific wells are located in Azerbaijan, according to the company's report for 2009.

Five of the wells are in the Azeri field and three in the Shah Deniz gas condensate field.

Azerbajan's most prolific wells are the three at Shah Deniz which produce output of around 45,500 barrels per day 42,548 bpd and 30,695 bpd respectively.

The Central and West Azeri wells produce from 30,126 to 34,187 bpd.

BP's other prolific wells are in Angola, on the northwestern shelf of Australia and in Trinidad and Tobago. The most productive well yields 72,737 barrels in oil equivalent per day.

ACG produces over 180m tonnes of oil

Since the start of oil production in November 1997 until 1 January 2010, the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) fields have produced 181.4m tonnes of oil, according to BP’s report on sustainable development for 2009.

Oil production from the Chirag field during the reporting period was 69.2m tonnes, from Central Azeri 48.3m tonnes, from Western Azeri 368m tonnes, from Eastern Azeri 19m tonnes and from Deepwater Guneshli 8.1m tonnes.

The ACG project involves BP as the operator with a 37.43% interest, Chevron (11.27%), SOCAR (10%), ExxonMobil (8.0006%), Amerada Hess (2.72%), Inpex Corp. (10.96%), Itochu Oil (4.3%), Statoil (8.5633%) and TPAO (6.75%).
