Gata Kamsky

Five chess players are leading just a round before the finish of the Baku Open contest held at AF Hotel in Novkhany.

These are American Gata Kamsky, Azerbaijani grandmaster Rauf Mammadov, Belarus Alexei Alexandrov, Iranian Ashgar Golizade and Russian Boris Savchenko. All of them have 6.5 points. The best additional indicators are shown by Kamskiy who returned his first place.

In the eighth round he beat our countryman Rasul Ibrahimov. Mammadov played a draw with Savchenko, Alexandrov with Israeli Emil Sutovskiy and Golizade beat Ukrainian Yevgeni Miroshnichenko.

These five sportsmen will fight for the first places. However, this struggle may also involve six players with 6 points. Among them are our Eltaj Safarli, Farid Abbasov and Nijat Abasov.

In the final ninth round in the group of leaders Savchenko will meet with Kamsky, Golizade Alexandrov and Mammadov Sutovskiy.
