Azerbaijan, Slovenia set up strategic partnership

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his Slovenian counterpart, Danilo Turk, have signed a joint statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two republics.

The presidents signed the statement at a ceremony in Baku on 9 November. Another four agreements were signed at the ceremony.

A memorandum of cooperation between the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and Slovenian International Trust Fund for Demining and Support to Mine Victims was signed by ANAMA director Nazim Ismayilov and his Slovenian counterpart Goran Gachnik.

The Ministry of Energy and Industry of Azerbaijan and the Slovenian Ministry of the Economy signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of energy and industry. The document was signed by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev and the Slovenian minister for development and European affairs, Mitya Gaspari.

Azerbaijan's minister for economic development, Shahin Mustafayev, and Mitya Gaspari signed a memorandum on cooperation between Azerbaijan's Ministry for Economic Development and Slovenia's Ministry of the Economy.

The last document signed between the countries was an agreement between the governments of Azerbaijan and Slovenia on lifting the visa regime for the holders of diplomatic passports. The agreement was signed by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Slovenia's Mitya Gaspari.

An Azerbaijani-Slovenian round table on cooperation in industry and mechanical engineering was held in Baku on 9 November.

A representative of Slovenia's Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ales Cantarutti, told the meeting that trade between Azerbaijan and Slovenia was worth nearly 10 million euros last year.

Azerbaijan’s deputy minister of industry and energy, Gulmammad Javadov, briefed the round table on state programmes aimed at developing and expanding Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector of the economy. He stressed the interest of the Azerbaijani government in expanding cooperation with Slovenia.
