Tue 29 June 2010 | 17:59 GMT

News.Az interviews Senem Aliyeva, head of the Azerbaijani editorial staff of Radio 4 in Estonia.

When and how will the Azerbaijani editorial staff be functioning at the Estonian radio?

Azerbaijani editorial staff at this Estonian radio will be functioning in the nearest future. Azerbaijani editorial staff will broadcast within 30 minutes within a definite day of the week. The day of broadcasting is still unclear. The half an hour presented to us for broadcasting is not a short period of time. For example, Azerbaijani side considers that 30 minutes on air is quite sufficient.

What is the aim of opening of the Azerbaijani editorial staff in the Estonian radio?

The main aim of opening the editorial staff in Azerbaijani is to inform Estonian audience and wide public in Europe of the true facts on Azerbaijan. This is technically possible since this radio can be heard in all European countries. The project envisioning the activity of Azerbaijani editorial staff has been  developed, the Estonian side has ratified columns on which the broadcasting will be held. As for Azerbaijan, we will get due recommendations on broadcasting from Azerbaijani side.

How many listeners do you expect to have in the beginning?

There are about 2,000 Azerbaijanis in Estonia. Certainly, Azerbaijani programs are intended not only for the Estonian listeners. We intend are going to broadcast in Estonian and further in English. Therefore, considering the fact that the Azerbaijani editorial staff will be broadcasting in Estonia and further in English, I think we will have a sufficient number of listeners.

Which spheres are you going to cover while broadcasting?

We have presented six directions for broadcasting for ratification by the Estonian state. Thus, news about the events ongoing in Azerbaijan will be broadcasted chronologically. In particular, information about Azerbaijan will be provided to listeners in the column “Amusing facts”. In addition, we will further inform about the activity of the Azerbaijan Center of Culture in Estonia. We will have a column “On prominent figures of Azerbaijan”, the columns where the listeners will familiarize with the samples of Azerbaijani music, literature and culture.

Who will finance the activity of the Azerbaijani editorial staff?

We have appealed to the Estonian Integration Committee with the project. This committee is funded within the Council of Europe project “Presentation of culture by the national minorities of Europe”. The organization approved our project. Therefore, the project has no deadline. Unless we have potential, we will continue this project.

Which role can the broadcasting in Azerbaijan play in raising the activeness of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Estonia?

Azerbaijanis in Estonia are active. Our sufficient representation in press and television is the main indicator of activeness. Azerbaijani Eldar Efendiyev who was elected for several times is one of the deputies of the Estonian parliament. It is possible to say that he represents Azerbaijanis on the highest level in Estonia.
