Francophonie Days kick off in Armenia

Francophone Days get underway in Armenia.

Francophone Days, initiated by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officially has got underway in Yerevan today in connection with the 40th anniversary of the International Francophone Organization (l'Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), Armenian FM’s Adviser on Francophone issues, Ambassador Christian Ter-Stepanyan told reporters today.

Armenia became OIF member in 2008 and participates in both cultural and educational events conducted by the Organization, he said.

As the Ambassador noted, OIF Secretary General is due to pay official visit to Armenia in April.

A number of events to present the cultural diversity of France, Belgium, Canada, Romania, Switzerland and other Francophone states in the spheres of music, literature, science, education, etc. will be conducted in Yerevan and the regions of Armenia, France’s Ambassador to Armenia Serge Smesov said.

Over 30 events are due March 19 - April 10: exhibitions, seminars, jazz concerts, poetry evenings, theatre performances, film screenings, and days of fairy-tale reading, according to the French Ambassador.

As Mr. Serge Smesov said, in the framework of the Francophone Days, the Armenian Education and Science Ministry has scheduled to hold a composition contest on “Let’s go to France” in the schools of the republic, the winners will get an opportunity to travel to France.
