Three thousand people in the southern town of Astara have tucked in to an enormous cake, baked to mark the Novruz spring holiday.

The cake was 10 metres long and one metre wide and weighed a whopping 500 kg.

Baker Samaya Gafarova said the cake took 120 kg of flour, 4,000 eggs, 80 kg of butter, 50 kg of cream and 100 kg of sugar. 'It took us six days to make it, but we enjoyed doing it,' she said.

It was the largest cake in the history of Astara District.

The holiday celebrations continued with a concert.
