Azerbaijan's foreign minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, has said that economic relations with Romania should be invigorated.

He made these comments on Thursday at a joint briefing with Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi.

'These intentions should be fulfilled by the next session of the Azerbaijani-Romanian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation,' Mammadyarov said.

The Romanian foreign minister said he and Mammadyarov had discussed regional and international issues.

'The main goal of my visit to Azerbaijan is to show the political will of my leadership to establish security in the wider Black Sea and Caspian regions,' Baconschi said. The minister said that trade between Azerbaijan and Romania did not meet the existing potential of the two countries.

As for the implementation of the Nabucco project to build a pipeline from the Caspian region to Europe, the Romanian minister said his country supported the economic foundation of the project.
