'The Azerbaijani service of Radio Liberty hardly covers events in the country and when it does, it sees everything negatively. For example, if we look at the work of the Russian, Armenian or Georgian services of Radio Liberty, we won't hear as much dirt or unfounded information about the authorities of their country as we can see in the work of the Azerbaijani service. Therefore, we have to say with regret that this radio does not achieve its objective of providing real coverage of events in the country,' Rabiyyat Aslanova said.
'Though it is clear that this radio is financed by another country, the journalists working there should at least have a sense of patriotism. I have recently heard only lies and biased information on events in our country from this radio.
'So many plants, factories and enterprises are opened in the country but the service has never reported this to its audience. And when did we last hear about Karabakh or the Khojaly genocide from this radio? Love for the homeland cannot be sold for money,' Aslanova said.
The BBC, Radio Liberty and Voice of America have been off air in Azerbaijan since 1 January 2009, when new regulations banning foreign broadcasters came into force.
