Liberty Radio must pay attention to Azerbaijan’s problems, MP

Wed 17 March 2010 | 17:54 GMT

A deputy of Milli Majlis has commented on the operation of Liberty Radio in Azerbaijan.

"Apparently, the Liberty Radio performs the instructions of their owners, so it does not work in the interests of Azerbaijan. In contrast to the same Armenian edition, which is given a complete carte blanche, in Baku, they  have cosmopoliticized Azerbaijani editors. This causes such activities of the radio", MP Fazil Mustafa said.

According to him, there is an impression that the US policy lies in their willingness to separate Karabakh from Azerbaijan.

All Azerbaijanis must now be the true patriots of their country to resist pressure exerted on us in the Karabakh issue. This also applies to journalists. I believe that if the head of the Azerbaijani version Khadija Ismayilova wants, she can change the policy of the editorship, and possibly, make it a little bit more patriotic. However, if this radio continues to operate in the same spirit, it will not bring it any popularity or rating.

People are now interested in the Karabakh problem, and they want to hear about it. The Caucasus is the scene of historical events and the radio should pay more attention to our problems", said the deputy.

Some time ago a number of national media expressed the view that Liberty radio takes a biased position in the Karabakh issue. At the same time, the Armenian branch of Radio Liberty is "quite actively defending the interests of the Armenian state in this matter”.
