Works on Rail Trade and Transport Facilitation Project implemented by Azerbaijan and World Bank are to be launched in Azerbaijan.

Deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani Railway Company Gurban Nazirov said the selection of a consultant on the project will complete in May.
"The process of concluding agreements with contractors will start close to October. The works on a definite part of the project will start close to the end of 2010 while the project itself will end by late 2013", Nazirov said.

The implementation of this project will help rehabilitate the eastern and western highway (in particular, there is a plan to reconstruct rails, sign indicators and energy supply system) and there is a plan to buy new locomotives for the eastern and western corridor and so on.

The World Bank approved the credit on the project in 2008. It came to effect on 15 March 2010. This credit has been the biggest loan ever allocated by the bank to Azerbaijan since 1995.
