Team from Baku should be invited to Russian championship

Wed 17 March 2010 | 16:59 GMT

The Final Four matches of the female volleyball contest CEV Cup will be held in Baku this weekend.

According to News.Az, Russian Uralochka, headed by famous coach Nicolai Karpol will be one of the participants of the decisive matches. Before going to Baku he shared his thoughts about the upcoming matches.

“Uralochka is going to Baku thinking of victory”, Karpol said in his interview to Sport Express. Certainly, CEV Cup is not the League of Champions but it is also a serious level. Presence of the Italian club among the final four also proves this though I do not consider Italians to be obvious favorites. They have a good team but without stars. Azerbaijani Rabita is able to beat them. Our semifinal against Zrvena Zvezdi will also be uneasy.

How did I treat the decision to hold Final Four in the Azerbaijani capital city? Rabita has showed the initiative which was approved. I do not think anything negative here. Baku has always been a city of volleyball. It has several good clubs and not only Azerrail like it has earlier been. I love coming to Azerbaijan and I have many friends there. The second team of Uralochka visited there last year. This was a useful tour for our youth. I am sure that it is necessary to think of inviting any team from Baku to Russian superleague in the future”.
